BIOSCREEN Natural Attenuation Decision Support System

generally :

The model is designed to simulate biodegradation by both aerobic and anaerobic reactions. It was developed for the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) TechnologyTransfer Division at Brooks Air Force Base by Groundwater Services, Inc., Houston, Texas.

- The Bio screen is tool used for analysis  as three excel works sheet  first one for input parameter the second is Centerline Output  and third called Plume Output.

- The parameters include

    1.  HYDROGEOLOGY

    2.  DISPERSION

    3.  ADSORPTION

    4.  BIODEGRADATION

     5.  GENERAL

     6.  SOURCE DATA

     7.  FIELD DATA FOR COMPARISON

    8.  CHOOSE TYPE OF OUTPUT TO SEE

The dispersion plume range was set to 280 feet, The Source thickness set as 10 feet as original program. The hydraulic gradient has been set to 0.003 ft. The simulation time was set for three Scenarios 2, 4 and 6 years while the decay rate and half-life has been set to 10 years

2 year

After 1 year the elements plume will have spread approximately 100 m from the sources . It will contain 6.7 kg but most of the contaminant is still at the source.

After 2 year the contaminant has spread over a 288 m from the source when you look at no degradation curve after 2 year. The concentration from the source is 0.45 Mg/L.( fig. 1)

4 years

After the 4 years the concentration at the source is increase with actual plume mass 13.3 kg at 13,634 mg/L. At 228 m from the source there is a concentration of 0.45 mg/L . (fig. 2 )

6 years

After 6 years  the concentration from  source is still high at 13.544 mg/L. At 192 m from the source there is a concentration of 4.08 mg/L with actual plume mass 19.3 kg a . (fig. 3)

10 years

After  10 years from the contamination the concentration at the source is slightly decreased to 13.454 mg/L. And 100 m from the source the concentration has slightly decreased as well to a concentration of 4.07 mg/L.
